Designed for AXE in tandem with the MojoMaster game, EvanAndGareth.com was the world's first commercial video blog, chronicling the adventures of two romantic crash-test dummies as they showed young men all the things not to do when trying to pick up women. At it's height, Evan & Gareth's video blog attracted millions of viewers, and drove many of them to try out their new dating skills in the MojoMaster game.

Designed for AXE in tandem with the Evan & Gareth video blog, MojoMaster was a console-quality, online multiplayer dating sim for young men. AXE product power boosts, and dating advice from Evan & Gareth helped players score with female avatars and out-playa their friends. Despite the abrasive conceits, the core game mechanics only rewarded players who would pay close attention to what the virtual women were looking for.

An evolution of Social Heroes, Tagnic is #hashtags for +people. Add a +tag when mentioning anyone (or anything) in a tweet (eg. @scottiev is such a +geek). Certain combinations trigger reputation badges (eg. lots of geekish tags will result in an "Ubergeek" badge), allowing Tagnic users to find people with similar interests.

Where is When is a simple system that experiments with opt-in location tracking: users press a button on one of three boxes, which causes the hands of the clock to point at the name of the location where the box resides. With design cues taken from fantasy fiction, it was an early experiment in ZigBee-based location tracking.

Where is When was developed using an Arduino microcontroller and Xbee wireless radios.

Destiny of Rooms is a project which aims to give a room some control over what is going on inside it. By monitoring the number of people in the room (through floor mats on either side of the doors), noise level (through ceiling-mounted microphones), and whether the doors were open or closed (through switches), a server would observe and respond, attempting to keep those numbers at an average.

It would generate automated email responses to a mailing list which all people with access to the room were on, in the voice of the room itself. This was a direct response to how some individuals attempted to change the nature of the room themselves - by sending email to the list.

A reversal from many of my location-based projects, Destiny of Rooms assumes a location and attempts to alter it for the users, rather than try to bring the users to the location.

Destiny of Rooms was developed with Arduino and Processing.

The Invention of Murder is a large-scale street game based on the death of Mary Rogers in 1841, which was one of the first widely reported murders in the popular press, helping to shape crime reporting for over a century. The game is the offspring of Clue and alternate reality games, with a touch of The Amazing Race: players visit locations, search for clues, and trade info with each other in a race to solve the crime. It uses coded stickers to establish a player's absolute location.

The year is 1841, and players are working as cub reporters for the New York Herald, racing to be the first to uncover the truth behind the crime of the century - the murder of Mary Rogers, the beautiful cigar girl whose body had been found floating in the Hudson days before. As they visit the places Mary might have been on the day of her death, they call in to the news desk to check their suspicions against the mounting evidence, and search for other players to determine which of the possible murder weapons have been found.

The Invention of Murder was developed with Asterisk and PHP.

with Adam Parrish, Jeff Sable, and Ruth Sergel, and features the voice of Ron Bagden

Rewordable is a card game of competitive word building and rebuilding. A smaller game deck formed from the master deck of 160 cards containing the most commonly occurring one, two, and three letter combinations in the English language.

Players draw from the game deck and take turns playing cards, trying to form words from their hands or by stealing cards from other players, building onto already constructed words.

You can find all the rules and download your own cards to print & play at rewordable.com!

Rewordable was featured in The Games Bible, by Leigh Anderson, and is currently in negotiations for publication.
