Sneaker Seed
Sneaker Seed is a prototype design that takes advantage of urban density to increase the density of data.
A wifi router, hacked to serve files off a memory card and powered by a battery, is disguised in a pair of sneakers and tossed over power lines near an open wifi network in New York City. The sneakers seed their contained files via BitTorrent, increasing the availability and speed of transferring those files over the internet, and mirroring urban density with information density.
Sneaker Seed was designed with OpenWRT, DD-WRT, BitTorrent, PHP, and Linksys routers.
